Scholarship Deadlines 2026–27: The Complete Calendar for Pakistani Students

Scholarship deadlines for Pakistani students, Oct 2026–Mar 2027: Commonwealth, Chevening, Fulbright, DAAD, HEC. Verified dates + how to apply.

Scholarship Deadlines 2026–27: The Complete Calendar for Pakistani Students

Miss a scholarship deadline by one day and the door stays shut for a full year — sometimes longer. The cruel part is that most students do not miss deadlines because they are careless; they miss them because the dates they trusted came from a listing site showing last year's calendar. This page is the opposite of that: a running, deadline-first calendar of every major scholarship for Pakistani students from October 2026 through March 2027, with each date verified against the awarding body's own announcement and stamped with the day it was checked. When a date changes, this page changes — bookmark it and check back.

How to read this calendar: the master table below lists every scholarship in deadline order with its level, funding, and status. Dates fall into two classes — verified (confirmed in the awarding body's current announcement) and expected (the call is not announced yet; the date is the best available projection, labelled as such). A date without a source is a rumour; every date here names its source. Below the table, each scholarship gets a mini-guide: who can apply, what it actually funds, the exact application route (including the portal traps that reject the most applications), and the official source. Closed items are marked closed with their next cycle noted — knowing what just closed tells you what to prepare for next year.

Key facts — the next 30 days

  • Closing tomorrow (19 Oct): MORA Minorities Scholarship 2026-27 — FINAL extension, no further extension. Rs 4,800–60,000/yr need-cum-merit grant; apply at mora.gov.pk today.
  • Closing in 2 days: Commonwealth Scholarship 2027–28 (HEC) — 20 Oct 2026, 4:00 PM PKT. Two portals required; HAT 60+ mandatory.
  • Closing in 14 days: Open Doors Russian Scholarship — 1 Nov 2026. No IELTS, no application fee, fully online.
  • Closing in 18 days: MEXT University Recommendation via APU Japan (graduate) — 5 Nov 2026.
  • 28–31 Oct cluster: USEFP Fulbright Visiting Scholar (28 Oct); IRSIP Batch 60 + Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship + US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor PhD (30 Oct); HEC Research Awards + Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust (31 Oct).
  • Rule of the page: verified dates name their source and check date; expected dates are labelled "expected". Never plan around an undated listing-site number.

The deadline calendar — October 2026 to March 2027

All dates checked 2026-10-16/17. "Last verified" is printed per row because a deadline is only as good as its check date.

The single most urgent item in the next 30 days: the Commonwealth Scholarship 2027–28 closes 20 October 2026 at 4:00 PM Pakistan time — two days from now. It is the largest fully funded UK award open to Pakistanis this month, and the number-one rejection cause is procedural (missing one of the two required portals), not academic. Right behind it: the Open Doors Russian Scholarship (1 Nov, no IELTS, no fee) and MEXT via APU Japan (5 Nov, graduate). Two fully funded doors close within 19 days — the sections below tell you exactly what to do this week.

October 2026: what closes this month

MORA Minorities Scholarship 2026-27 — closes 19 October 2026 (FINAL extension)

The Ministry of Religious Affairs' need-cum-merit grant for minority students (Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Zoroastrian and others) studying in government institutions. Eligibility: at least 50% marks in the last examination; parent/guardian monthly income ≤ Rs 80,000. Grant: Rs 4,800–60,000 per year depending on study level. How to apply — the two-step trap: (1) apply online at mora.gov.pk, then (2) dispatch the printed form with documents to the Ministry (Green Trust Tower, Islamabad) within 5 days of the online submission. Helpline: 051-9208487. Honest flag: the 19-October extension is confirmed by MORA's own LatestNews notice ("Extension of Online Applications for grant of Scholarships to the student of minorities communities 2026-2027", dated 8 October 2026) as well as Result.pk (18 October 2026); the Ministry calls it the final extension with no further extension expected. Sources: Result.pk (18 Oct 2026 extension report); The Asian Mirror (8 Sep 2026 original call); pakera.pk; millanonline.com.

Commonwealth Scholarship 2027–28 — closes 20 October 2026, 4:00 PM PKT

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission's flagship award for developing Commonwealth nations, with HEC as Pakistan's nominating agency. Master's and PhD at UK universities, 2027–28 academic year.

Eligibility: Pakistani and AJK nationals who are permanent residents of Pakistan/AJK. Dual nationals are not eligible. There is no upper age limit. Master's: first-division bachelor's (16 years of education) in a relevant field. PhD: first-division master's/MS/MPhil (17/18 years). No second or third division in the latest degree. Students awaiting final results MAY apply — but must submit the final degree and transcript before the session starts (Aug/Sep 2027).

The test rule: an HEC HAT score of 60/100 or above is mandatory (HAT-I to IV; tests taken on or after 25 October 2024 are considered).

How to apply — the two-portal trap: you must apply on BOTH (1) the CSC online application system (Master's/PhD scholarship pages) AND (2) the HEC portal (scholarship.hec.gov.pk → "Learning Opportunities Abroad" → Commonwealth application, with your HAT score). Submit on both portals before the deadline; saved-but-unsubmitted HEC forms are rejected. No hard copies unless HEC emails asking for them.

Funding: full tuition, return Pakistan–UK airfare, monthly stipend, warm clothing allowance, study travel grant, thesis grant (PhD), child allowance if eligible. On the stipend figure: fresher guides quote £1,712/month (£2,000 in London); older pages quote £1,347/£1,652 — likely last year's rates. Treat the fresher figure as indicative and confirm the 2027–28 rate in your award letter. HEC carries no financial liability — it nominates; the CSC makes the final selection. Roughly 26 Master's + 30 PhD nominations from Pakistan, with at least 45% of nominations going to women.

Timeline after applying: nominations expected December 2026; final results around July 2027; studies begin September/October 2027.

Sources: HEC announcement (hec.gov.pk/english/HECAnnouncements/Pages/CW-Scholarship.aspx); cross-verified across Bloom Pakistan, ProPakistani, TechJuice, GreatPakTimes, Westside Visa, and Pakhtun Digital — all agree on 20 Oct 2026, 4 PM. USEFP Fulbright Visiting Scholar Programme — closes 28 October 2026

For Pakistani PhD holders who want to research or teach in the United States for up to 10 months. Fully funded via the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP). If you hold a PhD and want a US research placement, this is the October window. Verify the deadline on usefp.org before applying — this date comes from a secondary scholarship listing, not the USEFP announcement page. Source: tajassus.com (Oct 2026).

US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor PhD Scholarship — closes 30 October 2026

HEC's PhD scholarship for study in the United States (Spring/Summer 2027 intake). Fully funded. Deadline 30 October 2026 per HEC's advertisement. See our HEC US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor guide for the full walkthrough.

HEC IRSIP Batch 60 — closes 30 October 2026

HEC's International Research Support Initiative Program: six months of PhD research at a foreign university or institute. Eligibility: full-time PhD students at HEC-recognized Pakistani universities, enrolled between Spring 2023 and Spring 2025; at least 18 credit hours of coursework plus 18 months–3.5 years of enrolment; GAT Subject (or the university's admission test) passed; approved research synopsis; and an official acceptance/invitation letter from a foreign supervisor (assistant professor or above) at a ranked university in a developed country. Funding: monthly living allowance by destination — USA $1,500; UK £750; Germany/Austria/Netherlands €975; rest of Europe €900; Korea/China/Malaysia $800; rest of world $1,200 — plus an economy return ticket up to $1,300 and bench-fee reimbursement up to $3,500. The portal rule: apply at scholarship.hec.gov.pk between 1 and 30 October 2026, then confirm your application status reads "Submitted" — "Saved" applications are not processed. Sources: TechJuice, GreatPakTimes, VerifiedPakistan (Oct 2026) — window, eligibility and funding bands agree across outlets; verify the Batch 60 advert on hec.gov.pk.

Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship — closes 30 October 2026

HEC's six-month overseas research fellowship for Pakistani and AJK PhD scholars, launched to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Research proposals should relate to his vision and thought, leadership and statesmanship, role and contributions, legacy and ideals, or constitutional and political thought. Eligibility: full-time PhD students at recognized Pakistani universities with at least 18 credit hours of coursework and 18 months–3.5 years of enrolment. Funding: economy return airfare up to $1,300, monthly allowance set by destination country, and bench-fee reimbursement in eligible cases. Applications run 6–30 October 2026 through the HEC scholarship portal. Source: thepakistanconnect.com (Oct 2026) citing the HEC announcement — verify the fellowship page on hec.gov.pk.

HEC Research Awards 2026-27 — closes 31 October 2026, 11:59 PM PKT

HEC's annual national awards for Pakistani researchers and scholars, in three categories. Best Researcher: resident of Pakistan for at least 3 consecutive years as of 1 January 2026, with sustained research output and demonstrable impact. Best Young Researcher: under 40 years of age as of 1 January 2026 and resident in Pakistan for at least 1 year. Best Publication: a scholarly book or journal article published within 3 years before 1 January 2026 — journal papers must be in HEC-recognized W-category journals with ≥100 citations, maximum 3 co-authors (all Pakistani residents ≥3 years). Prizes: Rs 500,000 each for the two researcher categories (some reports say Rs 550,000 — confirm the advert) and Rs 1,000,000 for Best Publication, plus certificates. Apply online at research.hec.gov.pk before the portal closes; incomplete or late submissions fail the administrative screening. Sources: findversity.com, thepakistanconnect.com, TechJuice, UrduPoint, result.pk (Oct 2026) — deadline, portal and categories agree across outlets; verify prize figures on the official HEC advert.

Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust — closes 31 October 2026

Short-study and professional-visit grants for Pakistanis going to the UK. The trust's own page gives deadlines as the last day of April and the last day of October — so 31 October 2026 for this round. Smaller than the flagship awards, but far less competitive, which makes it one of the best-expected-value applications on this calendar. Source: Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust page via pakera.pk.

November 2026: the urgent international cluster

Open Doors: Russian Scholarship Project 2027 — closes 1 November 2026

The most underrated deadline on this calendar. Run by Russia's Global Universities Association with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Open Doors is a competition-track scholarship: you register, build a portfolio, and compete in English or Russian — no IELTS/TOEFL required, no application fee.

Who: all foreign citizens including Pakistanis. Age bands: 16–23 (Bachelor's), 20–33 (Master's), 22–35 (PhD). Funding: tuition-free study via the Russian Government quota, a monthly university stipend, and a free Russian-language preparatory year. Note the honest limit: travel, accommodation and food are self-paid — it is not a full cost-of-living package like Commonwealth or Fulbright. Apply: od.globaluni.ru (registration + portfolio). Deadline: 1 November 2026 — registration and portfolio, no extensions. One caution: one aggregator's body text misprints the deadline as "November 1st, 2027" while its own heading says 2026 — the 2026 date is correct; the page is typo-tainted, not the deadline. Source: Open Doors organizer via research brief, 2026-10-17.

MEXT Scholarship — University Recommendation via APU — closes 5 November 2026

Japan's MEXT (Monbukagakusho) scholarship via the Asia Pacific University's university-recommendation track, for the September 2027 intake. Graduate only (Master's and PhD). Fully funded: full tuition, roughly ¥144,000/month allowance (including housing), and return airfare. You apply through APU, which recommends candidates to MEXT. Note: the main MEXT Embassy track for Pakistan closed 26 May 2026 — the next embassy round normally opens April–May 2027 (for the 2028 intake), so this APU track is the live Japan window. Pakistani applicants should confirm nationality eligibility in the current call. Source: MEXT via APU admissions, via research brief 2026-10-17.

Japan JDS Scholarship — Pakistan — reported 27 November 2026

A Japan-funded government scholarship (JICA/JICE via Pakistan's Economic Affairs Division) offering 16 Master's slots plus 1 PhD research slot at top Japanese national and private universities. Fully funded: 100% tuition, return airfare, monthly living allowance, research grant, relocation support. Important: this is a civil-servant-only track — regular Federal/Provincial government employees (BPS-17 and above) with at least 16 years of education. The 27 November 2026 deadline comes from a single secondary source and could not be re-confirmed on an official page in this check — verify on the Economic Affairs Division / JICE channels before planning around it. Source: careerdost.blog (Oct 2026) — unverified against official.

The UK and Canada university awards (1–30 November)

Sheffield Hallam University — Transform Together Scholarships: 50% tuition-fee reduction for the first year, for exceptional international applicants on eligible full-time postgraduate taught degrees (January 2027 intake). You must hold an offer first, then lodge the scholarship application with transcripts. Deadline: 1 November 2026. Source: shu.ac.uk.

Aston University — Sir Adrian Cadbury Chancellor's Scholarship (Postgraduate): £10,000 tuition reduction for self-funded international offer-holders on postgraduate taught courses (excludes MBA, MRes, PhD, research). Requires a 500-word impact statement (450–550 words — outside that range is not assessed). Deadline: 1 November 2026, 23:59 UK time. Source: aston.ac.uk.

Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship (University of Toronto): U of T's most prestigious award for international students — tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence support for four years, ~37 scholars a year. Scholarship application deadline: 6 November 2026. Critical trap: the school nomination deadline was 9 October 2026 and the OUAC admission deadline 16 October 2026 — if your school did not nominate you, this door is already shut for 2027 entry; plan for the 2028 cycle instead. Sources: utoronto via coursmooc.com, selibeng.com.

UBC International Scholars Award: UBC's merit awards for international students (partial to full). Reported deadline 15 November 2026 for the scholars award, with the UBC International Scholars application due 1 December 2026 — verify both dates on ubc.ca before applying. Source: bheuni.io (Oct 2026).

Beijing Government Scholarship (BFSU): for international students at Beijing Foreign Studies University — degree and non-degree tracks, minimum average 80/100 or GPA 3.0, HSK requirements for Chinese-taught programmes. Application deadline: 30 November 2026. Verify on bfsu.edu.cn. Source: youthexpat.com.

University of Strathclyde — Faculty of Science International Masters Scholarship (January 2027): awarded automatically to eligible new international fee-paying students on receipt of deposit payment — no separate application. Deadline: 30 November 2026. Source: strath.ac.uk.

Berea College (USA): the well-known fully funded US undergraduate college enrolling ~120 international students a year from 70+ countries. Application deadline: 30 November 2026. Start early — the file is document-heavy (test scores, recommendation forms) and incomplete applications are not considered. Source: berea.edu via thelightofengineer.com.

Foreign applications ask for your grades in their format — UK universities read classifications, US universities read the 4.0 scale, and WES/ECE evaluations have their own conversion logic. Before you submit, run your numbers through our WES & ECE grade-conversion guide so the figure on your application matches what the evaluator will compute.

December 2026 – January 2027: the Erasmus Mundus cluster

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are two-year joint degrees across two or more European countries, funded by Erasmus+. For Pakistanis the appeal is structural: no HEC nomination is needed (you apply directly to each programme), funding is among the most generous in Europe — €1,400/month for 24 months, tuition waived, insurance included, no application fee — and there is no universal IELTS requirement (it varies by programme). The trap: each programme sets its own deadline, and the scholarship-track deadline is always earlier than the self-funded admission deadline. For the 2027 intake, the confirmed scholarship-track dates in this check are:

  • NOHA (humanitarian action): 15 December 2026, 23:59 GMT.
  • PlantHealth: 31 December 2026.
  • ILSPSD (law, security and sustainability): 4 January 2027, 23:59 CET.
  • CoDaS (communications and data science): 5 January 2027 (supporting documents by 12 January).

Most programmes close between October 2026 and January 2027 — browse the EACEA Erasmus Mundus catalogue, shortlist two or three programmes in your field, and apply on each programme's own portal. A strong verified walkthrough for Pakistanis: pakera.pk's Erasmus Mundus guide. Sources: European Commission / EACEA via research brief, 2026-10-17.

January – March 2027: the watchlist (expected dates — prepare now)

These are the heavyweight annual cycles whose 2027 calls are not yet announced. The dates below are expectations from the last cycle's pattern — labelled as such, because an expected date is a planning aid, not a commitment. Use the waiting time to assemble the file (see the timeline section).

Stipendium Hungaricum 2027–28 (Hungary): expected ~mid-January 2027 (last cycle closed 15 January 2026; the call usually appears Oct/Nov 2026). Bachelor's, Master's and PhD; tuition-free plus HUF 43,700/month (Bachelor's/Master's) or HUF 140,000–180,000/month (PhD), dormitory/housing support and medical insurance. Pakistan is a sending-partner country via HEC. Dual-portal rule: you must apply on BOTH the Hungarian portal (apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu) AND the HEC portal — one portal alone means rejection. Usually no IELTS unless the chosen university demands it. Sources: Tempus Public Foundation + HEC via research brief.

Türkiye Burslari 2027 (Türkiye): expected ~20 February 2027, with the portal opening around 10 January 2027 (YTB posts the call around late December). Associate through PhD; fully funded — tuition, a one-year Turkish language course, accommodation, health insurance, return flights, and a monthly stipend. On the stipend: the per-level figures checked against official pages in September 2026 are ~6,500 TL (bachelor's) / 9,500 TL (master's) / 13,000 TL (PhD); one aggregator's "up to 9,000 TL" looks stale — confirm in the new call. Veteran advice: the portal crashes in the final days every year; submit by ~10 February. Sources: YTB / turkiyeburslari.gov.tr via research brief.

Australia Awards 2028 intake: the 2027 intake closed 30 April 2026; the 2028 call is expected ~February–April 2027. Fully funded (tuition, return airfare, establishment allowance, fortnightly living stipend, health cover) with a two-year return-home condition. Pakistani applicants apply from Pakistan via the OASIS portal when the call opens. Source: Australian Government / Australia Awards.

Fulbright Degree Program Pakistan 2028: the 2027 cycle closed 1 April 2026; the 2028 cycle is expected ~February–April 2027. Master's and PhD only (no bachelor's), all fields except clinical medicine; fully funded (tuition, textbooks, airfare, living stipend, health insurance, visa fees, computer, settling-in allowance). Watch usefp.org — and start the GRE/TOEFL clock now, because test seats fill months ahead. Source: USEFP.

The national safety net: HEC Need-Based, Ehsaas/BISP, PEEF

Foreign scholarships get the headlines, but for most Pakistani undergraduates the money that actually pays the semester bill is domestic. Three programmes matter — and all three are widely misreported.

HEC Need-Based Scholarship 2026–27

HEC's undergraduate need-based programme runs through participating public universities: tuition covered plus a Rs 6,000/month stipend per HEC, with a CGPA 2.0 continuation threshold, and self-finance students excluded. There is no single national deadline — each university's Institutional Scholarship Award Committee sets its own internal date (recent closings: COMSATS Lahore 15 Oct 2026, BZU Multan 6 Oct 2026; the typical window centres around ~30 November). You never apply directly to HEC: go to your own university's Student Financial Aid Office and file the HEC form there. Eligibility: open-merit undergraduates at public universities whose family income falls below the poverty threshold, assessed by the committee. Sources: HEC (hec.gov.pk); verified explainer pakera.pk.

Ehsaas / Benazir / BISP Undergraduate Scholarship — portal currently closed

The programme once called Ehsaas was renamed the Benazir Undergraduate Scholarship Project and is now listed on HEC as BISP Scholarships for Undergraduates (4–5 year degrees at 119 HEC-recognized public universities; 50% quota for women). HEC's own How-to-Apply page says "the scholarship portal is currently closed" (checked Aug–Sep 2026) — there is no confirmed new deadline. Two corrections to widespread misreporting: (1) one listing site shows "30th November 2026 (Extended)" — that page is over 1,530 days old and clearly stale; do not plan around it. (2) On the stipend: HEC's own page says Rs 40,000 per annum; several guides claim Rs 4,000–6,000/month — publish HEC's figure, and treat the guides' numbers as possibly describing older phases. When the portal reopens it will be at ehsaas.hec.gov.pk / the HEC portal. Source: HEC How-to-Apply page.

PEEF (Punjab Educational Endowment Fund)

PEEF runs multiple streams — Intermediate, Undergraduate, Master's, MPhil, and PhD (including international PhD at top-50 QS universities and a Cranfield UK PhD track) — with stipends disbursed biannually through the institution until degree completion. Mostly Punjab-domicile, 60%+ marks, income limits; you apply via your institution, not directly to PEEF. No 2026–27 deadline has been announced (the 2025–26 Special Quota cycle is closed) — mark this one "awaiting announcement" and watch peef.org.pk and your institution's notice board. Source: PEEF (peef.org.pk) via pakword.com.

Already closed — and what to prepare for next time

Chevening Scholarship 2027–28: closed 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. The UK's fully funded one-year master's for future leaders (2,800 hours of work experience required). Next cycle opens ~August 2027 — spend the year building the two things Chevening weights most: work experience and a sharp leadership narrative.

DAAD EPOS — MSc Environmental Governance (Freiburg): closed 15 October 2026. €992/month; required a bachelor's no older than six years plus two years of professional experience. Other DAAD EPOS programmes run on their own clocks — check daad.de per programme.

Fulbright Degree Program 2027: closed 1 April 2026. The 2028 cycle is expected ~February–April 2027 (see the watchlist).

Australia Awards 2027: closed 30 April 2026. The 2028 cycle is expected ~February–April 2027 (see the watchlist).

MEXT Embassy track (Pakistan): closed 26 May 2026. Next round normally opens April–May 2027 for the 2028 intake.

5 mistakes scholarship listing sites make (and how this calendar avoids them)

1. Last year's deadlines, presented as this year's. One ranking page ("13 Verified Programs", updated 9 Oct 2026) prints the Commonwealth Scholarship deadline as 25 October 2026. Six independent sources — Bloom Pakistan, ProPakistani, TechJuice, GreatPakTimes, Westside Visa, Pakhtun Digital — all agree the HEC deadline is 20 October 2026, 4:00 PM. A student trusting the listing site would start the application five days after the portal closed. Every date on this page carries a "last verified" stamp; a date without one is a rumour.

2. Funding figures pasted into the wrong rows. The same listing page shows "£1,347/month" as the living allowance on the Ehsaas undergraduate row — that figure belongs to the UK-based Commonwealth Scholarship, not a Pakistani undergraduate programme. Copy-paste errors across rows are endemic on aggregator pages; here, every funding figure is tied to the scholarship it belongs to, and disputed figures are fenced, not asserted.

3. Stale pages presented as current. One legacy aggregator still shows the Ehsaas scholarship as "30th November 2026 (Extended)" — on a page over four years old — while HEC's own page says the portal is closed. Domain age ranks; it does not update. This calendar marks closed programmes as closed instead of recycling their old dates.

4. Expectations published as facts. Several guides print "expected" dates (a December 2026 Ehsaas reopening, a "~30 Nov" HEC Need-Based national deadline) with the same typography as confirmed ones. Here, expected dates wear the "EXPECTED — not announced" badge, always. An expected date is a planning aid, not a commitment.

5. October-only vision. The best methodology in this SERP (pakera.pk's October deadlines list, with a printed "how we verified this" section) stops at October 31. Scholarships do not stop in November. This calendar runs through March 2027 — the November 1 and November 30 clusters, the Erasmus December dates, and the Jan–Mar watchlist are exactly what October-only pages miss.

The application timeline: work backwards from every deadline

Most rejections are logistical, not academic. For any February 2027 deadline (Türkiye Burslari, Fulbright, Australia Awards), the file should be assembled on this schedule:

  • 12 weeks out (now): shortlist 3–5 scholarships; confirm eligibility (nationality, degree, age); book IELTS/PTE or GRE seats — test slots fill months ahead.
  • 10 weeks out: request transcripts and HEC/IBCC attestations (attestation queues are the classic bottleneck); line up two referees and brief them in writing.
  • 8 weeks out: draft the statement of purpose / study plan; tailor one version per scholarship (reviewers read hundreds — generic essays die first).
  • 6 weeks out: complete medical/police documents where required; scan everything at 300 DPI; verify file-size limits on each portal.
  • 4 weeks out: submit the first application. Never submit everything in the final week — portals crash (Türkiye Burslari's does every year).
  • 2 weeks out: confirmations and reference-letter follow-ups; screenshot every submission receipt.
  • Final week: buffer only. If you are still writing in the final week, you started late.

The portal traps that reject the most Pakistani applications: (1) one portal instead of two — Commonwealth and Stipendium Hungaricum both require the HEC portal AND the foreign portal; (2) saved-but-unsubmitted forms — HEC rejects forms left in "saved" state; (3) the HAT-60 rule — Commonwealth requires it, and awaiting-result applicants must still meet it; (4) the nomination trap — Pearson and similar awards need school nomination months before the scholarship deadline; (5) expired English tests — most programmes want tests taken within two years.

Frequently asked questions

Which scholarships on this list need no IELTS?

Open Doors (Russia) explicitly requires no IELTS/TOEFL and no application fee — the competition is portfolio-based in English or Russian. Stipendium Hungaricum usually accepts an English-medium certificate unless the chosen Hungarian university demands IELTS. Erasmus Mundus has no universal IELTS rule; it varies by programme. Always check the current call — language rules change between cycles.

Can final-year students apply before graduating?

Often yes. Commonwealth explicitly allows awaiting-result applicants (final degree and transcript must reach HEC before the session starts, Aug/Sep 2027). Most expected-cycle scholarships (Türkiye Burslari, Fulbright, Australia Awards) accept final-year students with the degree due before enrolment. Read the call — "must have completed the degree by" dates differ.

Can I apply to several scholarships at once?

Yes, and you should — the programmes are independent and timelines overlap deliberately. The only constraints are effort (each needs a tailored essay) and a few exclusivity rules at the award-acceptance stage (you cannot hold two full scholarships for the same study period). Apply broadly; decide if you win twice.

Is the Open Doors Russian scholarship really fully funded?

It is tuition-free with a monthly university stipend and a free Russian-language preparatory year — but travel, accommodation and food are self-paid. It is not a full cost-of-living package like Commonwealth or Fulbright. Budget the living costs honestly before you celebrate.

What if I missed the Commonwealth 20 October deadline?

The 2027–28 HEC round is closed and late applications are not accepted. Prepare for the next cycle (normally opens ~August 2027): secure a HAT score of 60+ now (scores stay valid), line up referees, and draft the study plan early. Meanwhile, the November and December doors on this calendar are still open.
