Scholarships Closing Soon: 12 Deadlines Between 20 October and 1 November 2026
Twelve major scholarships and fellowships close in the next two weeks — and every one of them was re-verified against fresh October 2026 sources before this list went up. This is not our full-year scholarship deadlines calendar (bookmark that for everything after 1 November). This is the urgent list: what is closing right now, who can apply, what you get, and exactly where to submit before the clock runs out.
wealth Scholarship (HEC portal) — 20 October 2026, 4:00 pm PKT, and HEC LAT registration — 20 October, midnight. Two days left.

1. Commonwealth Scholarship 2027 — closes 20 October, 4:00 pm PKT (2 days)
The most urgent item on this list. HEC is Pakistan's nominating agency for the UK Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, and both portals close on 20 October: HEC at 4:00 pm PKT and the CSC at 16:00 UK time. Our full guide lives at HEC Commonwealth Scholarship 2027.
- Who can apply: Pakistani or AJK nationals (permanent residents; dual nationals cannot apply). Master's: first-division 16-year Bachelor's. PhD: first-division 17/18-year MS/MPhil. HAT score of at least 60/100 (HAT-I to IV). No upper age limit.
- What you get: full tuition, return airfare, monthly stipend of £1,712 (£2,000 in London), plus study-travel and child allowances.
- How to apply: submit on both the CSC portal and the HEC scholarship portal before the cutoff. Applications opened on 8 September; the tentative 25 October HAT test is the last one that counts for this cycle, and HEC adds that score automatically.

2. HEC Law Admission Test (LAT) 2026 — registration closes 20 October, midnight (2 days)
Not a scholarship, but the registration deadline that blocks thousands of LLB aspirants — it earned its place here. HEC extended the registration deadline to 20 October, and the portal shuts at midnight (24:00). The test is tentatively scheduled for 15 November 2026: 100 marks, 50 to pass, and a five-year LLB requirement. Full coverage: HEC LAT 2026 registration guide.
- Who can apply: students intending to join the five-year LLB programme.
- What you get: LAT qualification is mandatory for LLB admission across Pakistan.
- How to apply: register on the ETC portal (etc.hec.gov.pk), submit the fee via 1Link 1Bill, and — the step that sinks applications — make sure the application status shows "Submitted", not "Saved". Roll slips are expected about a week before the test.

3. Fulbright Scholar Program 2027 (USEFP) — closes 28 October (10 days)
This is the scholar programme, not the degree scholarship: up to 10 months of lecturing, post-doctoral research, or a combination at a US university, run by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan under the HEC-USEFP Bilateral Partnership (HEC Pakistan announcement, 6 Oct 2026).
- Who can apply: Pakistani scholars and professionals holding a PhD or terminal degree; all disciplines except clinical medicine; excellent English (no English test required). Not eligible: those who completed a PhD within the last two years, visited the US for a long-term programme in the last five years, dual US-Pakistan nationals, or current US students/visa holders. A US university invitation letter is required at application.
- What you get: international airfare, living stipend, research allowance, health insurance — plus funding for one accompanying dependent.
- How to apply: online only through the USEFP portal (usefp.org), with the completed form, three reference letters, and the invitation letter. Incomplete applications are not considered.

4. HEC IRSIP Batch 60 — closes 30 October (12 days)
HEC's International Research Support Initiative Program sends full-time Pakistani PhD students abroad for six months of research at a foreign university, institute, or lab. The portal runs 1–30 October 2026 (HEC's own How-to-Apply page, crawled 7 Oct).
- Who can apply: Pakistani/AJK nationals enrolled full-time in a PhD at an HEC-recognised university; at least 18 credit hours of coursework; between 18 months and 3.5 years into the PhD; enrolled between Spring 2023 and Spring 2025 for Batch 60; GAT Subject or university admission test passed; approved research topic/synopsis; and — the hard part — an official acceptance letter from a foreign supervisor (assistant professor or above) at a ranked university in a developed country.
- What you get: economy return airfare up to $1,300, plus monthly living allowances by destination (e.g. $1,500 US, £750 UK, €900–975 Europe), and bench-fee reimbursement up to $3,500 if declared in the acceptance letter.
- How to apply: on the HEC scholarship portal; the acceptance letter, foreign supervisor's proforma and CV, approved synopsis, and local supervisor's recommendation all go in. Status must read "Submitted" — "Saved" applications are discarded.

5. US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor PhD — closes 30 October (12 days)
HEC's flagship doctoral route to the United States: a full PhD at top-100 QS-ranked US universities. The Spring/Summer 2027 intake closes 30 October 2026; the Fall 2027 intake has its own deadline of 30 March 2027 — don't confuse the two (result.pk, 14 Oct 2026).
- Who can apply: Pakistani/AJK nationals with 16 years of education (4-year BS/BE) or 18 years (MS/MPhil), at most one second division, age up to 35 (40 for faculty/government researchers), GRE General 300+ or HEC HAT 60%+, and — decisive — a conditional or unconditional PhD admission offer from an eligible top-100 QS US university.
- What you get: tuition support, an annual stipend (figures reported around $19,000 at top-50 universities; bloompakistan reports $1,600–$1,900/month), up to $2,000/year health insurance, and return airfare.
- How to apply: secure the admission offer first, then apply on the HEC scholarship portal under the Knowledge Corridor scheme with transcripts, test scores, research proposal, and recommendation letters.

6. Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship — closes 30 October (12 days)
A new HEC fellowship marking the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah: six months of research abroad for PhD scholars — but only for research on his vision, leadership, contributions, legacy, or political, social and constitutional thought (HEC announcement, 6 Oct 2026).
- Who can apply: Pakistani/AJK nationals enrolled full-time in a PhD at a recognised Pakistani university; at least 18 credit hours of coursework; between 18 months and 3.5 years of enrolment; GAT Subject or university admission test passed. The approved research topic must be Jinnah-related.
- What you get: six months at a leading foreign university, institute, or laboratory, with airfare support (up to $1,300), monthly allowance by destination country, and bench-fee reimbursement in eligible cases.
- How to apply: via the HEC fellowship page (hec.gov.pk/Site/QMF) and the designated Google Form, with the invitation letter from the foreign host, approved synopsis, and local supervisor's recommendation. Queries: qamf@hec.gov.pk.

7. University of Tokyo MEXT Scholarship 2027 — closes 30 October, Japan time (12 days)
The Japanese government's fully funded scholarship, university-recommendation track: the Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo screens and nominates candidates to MEXT — there is no separate embassy application for this track. The application window is 15–30 October 2026, Japan Standard Time, and only electronic submissions count.
- Who can apply: international students from countries with diplomatic relations with Japan applying to the Graduate School of Science for Master's or Doctoral programmes starting October 2027; strong academic record (around GPA 2.30/3.00 on the MEXT scale); English or Japanese proficiency; age conditions vary by graduate school (several set "born on or after 2 April 1992").
- What you get: full tuition and examination fees waived, monthly stipend of about ¥144,000 (Master's) to ¥145,000 (Doctoral) at recent rates, economy return airfare, and guaranteed first-year accommodation at the University of Tokyo International Lodge.
- How to apply: complete both the Graduate School of Science admission application (Special Selection for International Applicants) and the MEXT scholarship application through the university's online form before the deadline. Read your target graduate school's own guideline — schools run their own document lists inside the university deadline.

8. IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship 2027 — closes 31 October (13 days)
The International Atomic Energy Agency's fellowship for young women pursuing a Master's in nuclear-related fields, plus facilitated IAEA internships. Our dedicated guide: IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship 2027.
- Who can apply: female candidates from IAEA Member States, accepted by or enrolled in an accredited Master's programme in a nuclear-related field (nuclear engineering, physics, chemistry, medicine, safety, security, non-proliferation, nuclear law, and related). Preference for above-average credentials (75%+ or GPA above 3.0/4.0).
- What you get: up to €20,000 for tuition plus up to €20,000 for living costs — a €40,000 ceiling — and internship opportunities facilitated by the IAEA. Caution: holding another scholarship for the same programme reduces IAEA support to tuition only, and non-disclosure risks the award.
- How to apply: online via the IAEA, with passport/ID, the admission letter (it must name the nuclear-related field and programme duration), a statement of tuition costs, and reference forms that referees submit directly to the IAEA by the deadline — one mandatory, a second preferred.
Sources: worldwide-scholarships.com (15 Oct 2026 — confirmed on IAEA's own page); selibeng.com (3 Sep 2026); opportunities247.org (4 Sep 2026). All agree: 31 October 2026.
9. Millennium Fellowship Class of 2027 — priority deadline 31 October (13 days)
The UN Academic Impact + Millennium Campus Network fellowship convenes undergraduate student leaders advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals on their campuses. The next priority deadline for the Class of 2027 is Saturday, 31 October 2026; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis after that (millenniumfellows.org FAQs, live).
- Who can apply: currently enrolled undergraduate students (18+), committed to leading a project that advances one or more SDGs on their campus. The Class of 2027 runs August–December 2027.
- What you get: a semester-long leadership programme with training, mentorship, and global recognition from UNAI and MCN — free for selected students. Cohorts of 8–20 fellows form on each campus.
- How to apply: apply on millenniumfellows.org with a time-bound project proposal that advances at least one SDG — the project idea is the heart of the application. Campuses need roughly 15+ applications to form a viable cohort, so rally classmates too.

10. Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust — 30 or 31 October? (read the note)
This one needs an honest flag. The Trust funds Pakistani doctoral researchers for research visits to the UK, with application rounds closing "the last day of April and the last day of October" — that reading comes from pakera.pk, which read the Trust's own page on 7 October 2026. But listing sites (wemakescholars, crawled today) report the Doctoral Bursaries 2026 deadline as 30 October 2026. Treat 29 October as your personal deadline and the conflict disappears.
- Who can apply: Pakistani PhD students/researchers heading to UK universities; doctoral bursaries (around £1,000) and short research-visit grants (around £1,500) in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
- What you get: a contribution toward UK research-visit costs — modest next to full scholarships, but it unlocks a funded UK research stay.
- How to apply: by email to the Trust with the application form, CV, and a UK host invitation letter, before the deadline. (Note: the separate Edinburgh IASH Visiting Research Fellowship round closed in February 2026 — this item is the doctoral bursary/short-visit route.)
Sources: pakera.pk (7 Oct 2026 — trust's own "last day of October" page reading); wemakescholars.com (crawled 18 Oct 2026 — 30 Oct listing); techgono.com (188 days ago — "last day of April and October"). Conflict handled as above.
11. India NMMSS 2026-27 — extended to 31 October (13 days)
India's Education Ministry extended the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) deadline to 31 October 2026 (announced 1 October). About 88,500 fresh and 197,000 renewal applications were already in by 30 September — but the extension window is real and open (Times of India, 1 Oct 2026).
- Who can apply: Indian students selected through the NMMSS selection test, now in Class 9 (fresh applicants) or Classes 10–12 (renewal); studying in state government, government-aided, or local-body schools; parents' annual income not above ₹3.5 lakh; selection-test eligibility needs at least 55% in Class 7 (50% for SC/ST).
- What you get: ₹12,000 per year, paid directly to the student's bank account; one lakh fresh scholarships awarded yearly, renewable up to Class 12.
- How to apply: only through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Complete the mandatory One-Time Registration (OTR — generates a 14-digit ID via Aadhaar) before applying. Applying is not enough: Institute Nodal Officer verification closes 15 November and District Nodal Officer verification closes 30 November — chase both.
Sources: Times of India (1 Oct 2026); NDTV (2 Oct 2026); careerindia.com (1 Oct 2026); timesnownews.com (1 Oct 2026). All agree: 31 October, extended.
12. UNU Junior Fellows Internship, Spring 2027 — closes 1 November, 23:59 JST (14 days)
The United Nations University's Junior Fellows Internship at its Tokyo headquarters (Office of the Rector): six months, 1 March – 27 August 2027, full-time (9:30–17:30, Mon–Fri), with a monthly stipend for interns without other funding — a rarity among UN internships. Applications close 1 November 2026 at 23:59 Japan Standard Time. Compare with the unpaid Bangkok UN role we covered at UN ESCAP Energy Division internship.
- Who can apply: any nationality; enrolled in or recently completed a Master's or PhD; 32 or under at application; no more than 5 years of relevant work experience; fluent English; strong research and writing skills. UNU strongly encourages applicants from developing countries and women.
- What you get: six months inside the UN's global think tank working on research, policy briefs, event coordination, and communications; orientation, guidance, and a partial-living-cost stipend if unfunded.
- How to apply: through the official UNU careers portal — CV, cover letter, completed application and funding forms, two recommendations, and English-language certification where required. Selection includes an interview and a timed practical assignment.
Sources: gizpulse.com (15 Oct 2026); opportunitylab.net (16 Oct 2026); opportunitiesforyouth.org (14 Oct 2026); inspireopportunities.com (18 Oct 2026). All agree: 1 November, 23:59 JST.
How Do You Apply Before These Deadlines?
The pattern across all 12 is the same: deadlines punish procrastinators, not weak applicants. Do these three things today:
- Sort by urgency, not excitement. If the Commonwealth or LAT applies to you, that is today and tomorrow — everything else waits. Work the list in deadline order, not prestige order.
- Hit "submit", not "save". HEC portals (IRSIP, Commonwealth, LAT) silently discard applications left in "Saved" status. Confirm the status reads "Submitted" — screenshot it.
- Start with the bottleneck document. Invitation/acceptance letters (Fulbright, IRSIP, QAMF) and referee submissions (IAEA) take days and depend on other people. Request those first; polish your essays while you wait.
For the full-year view — everything after 1 November, in deadline order with verification stamps — use our Scholarship Deadlines 2026–27 calendar. And if you need to sanity-check your grades before applying, our Commonwealth guide links into the GPA tooling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which scholarships have the closest deadlines right now?
Two close on 20 October 2026: the Commonwealth Scholarship (HEC portal shuts at 4:00 pm PKT, and the CSC portal closes the same day) and HEC LAT registration (portal closes at midnight). With two days left, both should be finished today — the Commonwealth needs submissions on two separate portals, and the LAT needs its 1Link 1Bill fee step completed.
Can I apply to several HEC programmes at the same time?
Yes. The Commonwealth, IRSIP Batch 60, the Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship, and the US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor are separate schemes with separate applications on the HEC portal. They are independent of each other, so an eligible PhD student can apply to both IRSIP and the Memorial Fellowship (both close 30 October), but must file each application separately.
What is the difference between HEC IRSIP and the Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship?
Both fund a six-month research visit abroad for full-time Pakistani PhD students, and both close on 30 October 2026. The difference is scope: IRSIP supports any approved PhD research topic, while the Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship is restricted to research on Muhammad Ali Jinnah's vision, leadership, legacy, and political, social, and constitutional thought, launched for his 150th birth anniversary.
Is the Charles Wallace deadline 30 or 31 October?
Sources disagree, and this list says so openly: the Trust's own page states "the last day of October" (read by pakera.pk on 7 October 2026), while listing sites report 30 October 2026. The safe move is to treat 29 October as your deadline — you lose nothing by being a day early.
